Remember the days of having Pen Pals? That, of course, will require some skill with writing, which sadly isn't taught in schools after elementary years. Social media and emails have overtaken the art of conversation and handshakes. Our children are growing up in a world of collecting "likes" instead of baseball cards. In this article from the Huffington Post, it explains that no matter what, the digital age is here to stay. But it's still an important part of our humanity to teach our children the importance of in-person conversation, writing, making logical decisions, and knowing how to access their imagination. These are life skills that are still necessary to one day be part of society. So while your children may show you again for the umpteenth time how to use Snapchat, teach them something as well. Remember, our children are our future.
